Benefits and the cost of a move

What will your life cost, and what help can you get?

Cost & Benefits estimates benefits eligibility from the current rule tables, then shows how those rules change if you move. Rent, taxes, and price levels for the cost of living comparison come from HUD, the Census Bureau, BEA, and published tax tables.

How an estimate is made

  1. 1. Your state picks the poverty guideline: the 48 states and D.C., Alaska, or Hawaii.
  2. 2. Each program uses its own percent of that guideline, or a dollar table copied from the agency.
  3. 3. If a state sets its own number and that number is not in a checked source, the result says so instead of guessing.
